Day 02 - Sunday, 11/10/24 - Day 1 At Sea
After a nice sleep, we awakened to our first day at sea. The stateroom which is under the entry area to the 4th floor main dining room is very quiet. There was a bit of motion to the ocean and we lost an hour last night and we are going to lose another tonight.
While eating breakfast a lady came up to us and I recognized her and finally recalled it was Marva, Dan's wife who was the chaplain on our Australia crossing a couple years ago. He is the Protestant chaplain on this cruise. We attended the interdenominational service which was quite good with a fellow from Long Beach, WA leading the singing with a great voice. Dan preached a short but nice message.
Our first lecture was a port talk by Kate Ross who lectured on the history of the Mediterranean. The content was good but I don't like listening to a person reading her presentation from behind a computer screen. Her visuals were also marked "Do not photograph". She was followed by Nick, our CD, about our first two ports in the Azores. It was an interesting and informative presentation.
After a nice lunch, Brian Beck gave a presentation on British naval history featuring a talk titled Treachery at San Juan. He also read his lecture and has a droning voice tone. The rest of the afternoon we spent lounging and I caught up my blog while Angela went to a movie.
We decided to eat in the Pinnacle Grill as we have a number of complimentary dinners there. It was as quite good and I booked a couple more pop up dinners (not free). We went to the World Stage for the Origins presentation but at the last minute it was cancelled because Nick was seasick. So we headed back to the room and prepped for bed. We're losing another hour tonight and there's a full agenda of lectures tomorrow.
