Day 06 - Thursday, 11/14/24 - Day 5 At Sea
Today was our 5th day at sea and there was definitely a lot of motion to the ocean overnight. At 7am there was a thunderous shock wave throughout the ship that was quite startling. But as the day progressed, the weather got better.
Our morning schedule was pretty typical with the morning interdenominational service first and followed by Nick's coffee chat. His guest was the spa manager, Chacha, who was a bubbly and cheerful Korean lady who just joined the ship after being on Disney for the past 8 years. She indicated that in drydock, the spa area was completely gutted and rebuilt with emphasis on ADA compliance. There are new spa rooms, new thermal chairs, and new carpet in the gym.
We skipped the Shore Excursions presentation to watch 1/2 of the first episode of The Mystery of Oak Island on the History channel on a tablet. Nick did a nice port talk on Civitavechia. Afterwards we enjoyed a long lunch with Pastor Dan and his wife Marva chatting about life and cruising and specifically about finding shore excursions.
We missed the first lecture but enjoyed Kate Ross speaking on Islamic Spain and she was followed by Michael Sullivan with a terrific presentation on Michelangelo Caravaggio.
Just before dinner Captain van der Wal came on the PA system to announce the cancellation of our port stop in Horta due to weather (high winds). We'll now proceed directly to the next port and arrive around the same time on Saturday as the skipped port.
Following dinner, Carlo Ruggerio, an Italian opera singer, was our evening entertainment singing Italian opera songs honoring Eugene Caruso. He was fabulous even though I didn't understand a word of it
