Day 23 - Sunday, 12/01/24 - At Sea

I think I was really tired this morning and I slept in until 8:57. Angela had already gotten up and left the room for the 9 o'clock inter-denominational church service. So I ended up missing that and prepared myself for the day and went up and got my normal breakfast of congi and prunes (got to be regular you know!) and then adjourned to the main stage for the first presentation of the day was a very good presentation by Mr. Cruz on pharaohs particularly King Tut. He was followed by Nick's port talk on Sardinia, which was pretty interesting.

After lunch, Nick gave a tech for travelers presentation, which was actually pretty interesting to go is fairly basic and he reminded me of some things I needed to do with respect to Google maps particularly.  He reminded me especially that I needed to download any needed maps before leaving the ship so that I would not need to have Internet access. Then Ida Kokte, a new speaker, spoke on Egyptian history, particularly about Marc Anthony and Cleopatra and their romance, and how alliances worked back in the day between countries.

While I was in the tech session. Angela reported to me that the captain made an announcement that we were headed off to a ship in distress. I went over to the window and noted that we were now doing about 22 knots of speed which is considerably faster than the projected speed of around 15 knots that was needed to reach Alexandria. We then adjourned up to the Crow's Nest which has been our custom and enjoyed a Coke Zero and some nuts as we scanned the horizon for possible shipping and distress. At around 4 o'clock a ship came into view that didn't seem to be moving very fast and I was able to identify it as the Juan Felix. We then slowed down to around 14-15 knots but we didn't ever come to a stop at that ship so I don't know if it was the one that was in distress or not. We had altered our course to go around that ship and then made some course maneuvers that put us back on track to head straight to Alexandria. [Three days later the captain noted that the ship in distress had solved their issue and that is why we reduced our speed and resumed our course to Alexandria.]

We had another dinner in the Lido buffet restaurant before attending the Rumba Kings, which are a Spanish guitar & vocal group that are very good and very, very loud. It was impressive to listen to them and their harmony was really good. I believe we have another concert from them a few days later in this cruise. Afterwards, we returned back to our room to see if the Seattle Seahawks football game was on. It wasn't, so we prepared for bed as the next day we have to be up quite early to begin our trip out of Alexandria up to see the museums and other items of antiquity in the Cairo area. We'll be there overnight at the Four Seasons Residences hotel, and we are looking forward to the trip.
